A swirl of new and exciting things have taken shape over the past several weeks and I have made a renewed commitment to keep posts current here, or at least more current than my lame latest attempts. For this post, I am just thrilled and and giddy to highlight my wife’s latest jukes and shakes. Check it:

She has recently gone into business for herself–the business of being Kate Angelella. She is now a freelance editor (contact her here for her rates), full-time writer, freelance writer, and just an all-around badass. I couldn’t be prouder of her. I have watched her work for years as an unappreciated corporate drone, honing her editorial skills, and publishing the brilliant work of many writers. She brought the very first national award to her imprint and her books made an impressive and powerful name for herself in the industry. On the heels of a successful run as an editor, she needed a creative change and, for this, has embraced the life of a full-time writer.

In addition to her writing career, she has teamed up with her author and best-friend, Jessica Ashley, and created a packager company called Violet & Ruby. They brainstorm, outline, write, publish and sell tween and teen fiction that is guaranteed to be successful, profitable, bullet-proof fiction. Their professional relationship has been proven by their work together on the impeccable Canterwood Crest series, which continues to garner high-profile attention as each book in the series out-sells the one before it. Violet & Ruby also keeps current a companion website that highlights affordable beauty products, dish out pop culture treats, and post “how-to” videos. Not even a month old and V&R has already made noise and received packages of free merchandise from major companies (hair bling, pens, lip gloss and make-up) to give away to their readership. Put simply, Kate and Jess write about beauty brands and art and everything in-between, educating their high-traffic eager readership. It’s a beautiful website too. Just gorgeous.

As her inaugural packager project, Kate (via Violet & Ruby) is working on a new tween/teen series called Wellington Prep, which will be their official premier. “Wellington Prep . . . where dark secrets and dangerous lies are meant to be found out.” The first installment is called dominate and will go live on March 11, 2011.

As if all of this wasn’t enough, Kate is also working on our collaborative YA novels CROSSED and its sequel CURSED. We are in the midst of our first draft for CROSSED. So what is like working with my wife? That’s a great question and I will save a more complete answer for a future post, but she has put me on a steady diet of Young Adult novels to read, in order to educate me on a genre of fiction that is her expertise. I have ready Holly Black’s VALIANT and am currently reading Jay Ascher’s THIRTEEN REASONS WHY. Both: amazing.

Kate Angelella: writer, editor, reader, business owner, blogger, tween/tween Svengali and, as always, my beautiful wife. Two months into her independent venture and the word dominate is a fair description of how well she’s doing.
